Common name: Sun Gold Cherry Tomato,
Botanical name: Solanum lycopersicum
What it is: The sweetest cherry tomato that I’ve ever grown. The orange-yellow fruit is born on a relatively fuss-free and vigorous plant.
Size: Vines grow 5 to 6 feet tall. Space 3 feet apart.
Where to use: Plant Sun gold in the veggie garden, large container or mixed-in with flowers. Tomatoes need full sun.
Why I like it: I love this tomato because they are flippin’ SWEET and easy to grow. My family heads to the garden just to snack on these tasty sweet tomatoes. And they don’t even bother to weed while they’re out there! I honestly can’t remember taking any of these tomatoes inside the house. Sun gold matures early and hangs on until late in the season. Would you believe me if I told you that one plant can produce 1,000 bite-sized cherries? If that’s an exaggeration, it’s not a big one. Truly a must-have veggie garden plant.
